Yoga for CORE STRENGTH

Happy New Year! Set your intention and then stoke the fire through this yoga sequence intended to keep you on track:)

Begin the New year with a revitalized perspective! The New Year represents an opportunity to make room for new experiences and points of view. Yoga helps us shed the old ways of seeing and doing things and invites in a renewed sense of strength and vitality to take on the new challenges that are ahead, whether physical, mental or emotional. In this mini workshop, we will nourish our Resolutions with a yoga sequence for Inner Strength.

New Year, New Start! Our bodies are designed to engage in detoxification every single day, however from time to time we all need a gentle nudge in the right direction. Let’s roll out our trusted mats and allow the yoga poses to stimulate our circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems, helping us rid our mind and bodies of accumulated waste and toxins! The New Year is the perfect time to become our healthiest, most authentic self.

Restorative Yoga

When you have a to-do list that could rival Santa’s, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the holiday season. Yoga is the calm in the storm of the merry-making time. Restorative yoga helps to relax and truly enjoy all the season has to offer. This mini workshop will include a gentle sequence and a
long guided relaxation. You will leave with a sense of deep replenishment. I found this online: The Importance of Recovery Time In Your Busy Life When days become shorter and colder, most mammals hunker down,
hibernating or just physically moving more slowly through the winter. Not humans. For us, life only gets more frenetic when temperatures drop and the holiday season arrives. While the challenges that naturally arise in an active life can build strength, resilience, and confidence, a critical ingredient to that growth is easy to forget in our hyper-productive culture: recovery time. Yoga allows you to recover fully from all the stresses and strains of life—by relaxing muscles, lowering your heart rate, and allowing your nervous system
to stop constantly reacting. People come away from a restorative yoga class not only more relaxed but also more focused and effective.

Rest & Rejuvenate

With the holiday season approaching, our lives are filled with so much DOING and very little BEING, so…perhaps there’s no need for the spa when you can find peace and relaxation right here at BAC! In this mini workshop, you will rest & rejuvenate through restorative yoga, and you will leave with open muscles, a relaxed nervous system, improved quality of sleep, and a deep sense of inner peace. So if you feel rundown, burned out, stressed or just tired, this is for you! It’s a powerful tool that supports the healing process during and after an illness or injury. Poses are well supported with props such as bolsters, straps, blankets, blocks, walls, allowing the body to fully and effortlessly let go. Each pose is typically held for several minutes and soft eye pillows, essential oils, dim lighting and soothing music will be added to help practitioners to release stress and tension and experience revitalization.

Yoga For Sciatica

Sciatica is a very common problem. You’ve most likely experienced it yourself or you know someone who has. If you have sciatica, then you know that it’s a real pain in the butt, both literally and figuratively. Affected areas can include your buttocks, legs, and back and your symptoms may consist of weakness, numbness, tingling, and burning, as well as moderate to extreme pain. This is because the source of the discomfort is irritation of the longest nerves in your body.

If a herniated disc is the cause of your pain, yoga can help you manage the situation and can even reduce the herniation. Certain poses can align, strengthen and lengthen your lower back and offer gradual improvement. If your sciatic nerve is being aggravated by a tight piriformis, yoga is a great remedy.

In this mini workshop, we will take care not to aggravate our condition, but rather alleviate it by minding our sensations and progressing from gentle poses to foundational poses based on a well thought of sequence. You may find relief from particular stretches, and you will be able to do them regularly to help prevent a recurrence of your sciatica or other ache.

Disclaimer: yoga positions can help relieve and heal sciatic nerve pain. However, the mini workshop should not be used to treat serious ailments without prior consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Whole Back Care

Are you living with back pain? As long as our back is “back” there doing its job, holding us up and keeping us mobile, we usually don’t give it too much thought; we can’t even see it. We take it for granted. It is just a back—our posterior sides, the very definition of strength and silence. But as soon as it goes out, we become very unhappy dealing with serious discomforts or excruciating pain. Pain increases muscle tension which in turn, creates more pain. When muscles are tense, they tighten and increase pressure on our nerves and other tissues at our pain sites, which can make the pain worse.Yoga, relaxation and deep breathing techniques can help break the pain-tension cycle.

Please join BAC staff for a therapeutic yoga practice to engage and support your back. It’s aimed at strengthening what’s weak, balancing what’s asymmetrical, releasing chronic contraction, and building aproprioceptive awareness. To reduce stress in the spine, we will use stretches to warm up the body, exercises to build “core” back muscles, and guided relaxation to release tension, calm mind and recharge body. It is particularly important for people who live with pain to learn how to use focus and deep
breathing to relax the body and thereby lessen pain.

Country Heat

For those of you that enjoy Zumba and Jazzercise – or any other form of classroom dancing – you’ll be excited to hear about a new format called “Country Heat”! It is coming out in September – and we are hoping to be one of the first clubs to offer it. Just like the Title implies – you will be working up a sweat dancing to popular Country music. Think – “line dancing” basics – in the studio! I’m pretty sure the cowboy hats and boots will be optional!
