REVOLUTION Happy Hour

We are adding a new cycling class beginning March 1st. It is called “REVOLUTION Happy Hour”  and it is every Friday evening from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. and it is taught by Courtenay McFadden, a professional, elite cyclist!
It will include not only cycling but incorporating strength and core as well…so a well rounded, full-body workout.

Courtenay McFadden

If you are a cyclist and have spent much time at our Downtown club, you know who Courtenay McFadden is.

My personal description of her in three words? Tough, Driven, Amazing ? in no particular order. I hired Courtenay when she was in her 2nd year at Western University to teach some Cycling classes for us. She showed up well prepared! She had a complete binder full of ideas, playlists, exercises etc. ? which was completely unexpected. Obviously, she was hired! Most of you that have been fortunate enough to take her classes in the past also know she makes and brings
homemade cookies to her classes on a regular basis.

Fast forward several years; you can follow her as she travels the United States, and the world, to race Cyclocross as a professional. What makes her story extra special is the fact that she has had two separate, excruciating hip surgeries, one year apart from the other. That kind of intensive therapy and recovery would make most people quit. The physical and mental stress she because I follow her, admire her, and learn from her, every day.

This year has been an epic year for Courtenay. She had her first “top of the podium” win, and this year has gone on to be her most successful so far!

Just recently, (the first week of December) Court was in Dallas, Texas to compete in the “UCI Resolution Cup”. This is a two-day event with races on both Saturday and Sunday. The course is intense, with tight, twisty corners, as well as foot-filled, wooded sections and a lot of variety. On the first race day, Courtenay was fast! She was completely focused, and by the end of the race, she was in a fast group of 4 other women. By the end of the race, she dug hard passed the other 3, and took first place!

The following day, the course was different, but she still went on to place 2nd. Amazing! She left the country to race in Nationals the following week. Although she always hopes to finish in the top 3, she came in 9th. No doubt she gave it 110% and we were so proud to watch her in Nationals again! What’s next? She is spending the next 5 weeks abroad in Europe to train and race. We will be sure to keep you updated. If you would like to follow her yourself, she is on Instagram and Facebook, and writes an amazing blog! Congratulations to Courtenay McFadden! What a story of inspiration and hope going into the New Year!!!

REVOLUTION

Our new cycling program “REVOLUTION” is up and running! We have been thrilled with the way things are ?rolling?out! It’s been going so well we’ve decided to add another evening class on Thursday nights from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. taught by Liza.

Jeremy, the program director, is currently monitoring the class sizes, and working on the most effective way to handle any full cycling classes we might have. Here are a few reminders if you are taking the class:

  • Let the instructor know if it?s your first time, so they can get you set up properly on the bike.
  • You cannot reserve a bike for anyone else. You need to physically be in the building to take a class.
  • If you see a new member coming in to take the class, please welcome them to BAC. We realize how difficult it is coming in for the first time when you don’t know the routine.

Because the Downtown studio is the only place we can offer cycling classes, we are moving the 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. RIPPED/HIIT class to the Cordata gym. Jeri and Heather will continue to teach this class and are excited to have more room for options and hoping to get more new faces in the class over the New Year. If you have any questions about any of our classes, please look up the class descriptions on our BAC website.

We also want to welcome Frederica to our Yoga staff! Freddie is teaching a class at the Downtown club from 6:45 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday nights. If you haven’t taken her class yet, please check it out! And if it’s your first Yoga class, just let her know before you begin, so she can go over any options you might need. Enjoy the holiday season? and we look forward to seeing you in the studio!

REVOLUTION Rocks BAC

We are very excited to introduce our new Studio Cycling program at the Downtown Club. We are proud to announce that Jeremy Lemke is heading up this new cycling experience. He has issued the following invitation to all BAC members and guests: “Come Rev it up at Bellingham Athletic Club’s all new Indoor Cycling class called Revolution. Don’t let the cold and rainy season put a damper on your training. Indoor cycling is an excellent way to keep your cardiovascular fitness up in a low impact heart pumping activity. Revolution will take members through specific drills that are designed to build strength and muscle endurance. Take your training to the next level through timed intervals where you will learn to fly on the flats, jog up-and-down mixed terrains and attack on a hill. This class is designed to benefit someone who has not been on a bike in years to the avid cyclist. Revolution will mimic the outdoor riding experience in a high intensity, energetic, and friendly environment that will push you to be your best. Check the schedule for a class time that works best for you and come check it out!”
