Group Fitness Classes

Bellingham Athletic Club has a variety of fitness classes available to you (over 80 classes per week!). Our instructors are here to give you the most of your group exercise experience, so don’t hesitate to let the instructor know if you have any special needs.

If you are new to a class, please come a few minutes early to meet the instructor and find out a little about the class.

At our Downtown facility, we offer Group Exercise classes in our Group Exercise Studio as well as our Studio Cycling Studio. Please consult the Downtown Fitness Class Schedule for classes, times, instructors, and intensity.

We offer Group Exercise Classes at both our Cordata and Downtown Facilities. Group Exercise classes are available to all members. Some classes require a sign up, so check the schedule to find out about those classes. Sign up begins a half an hour before class and the sign up sheet is located at the front desk.

Aqua Aerobics

Come experience all the benefits the water can provide in this guided 45-minute music filled balance, cardiovascular, and muscle strength building class. Low impact so it’s easy on the joints but provides resistance to the working muscle for an overall body benefit. Because it’s water you can work as hard or as easy as you are able so it is appropriate for people of all physical abilities and levels.

Aqua Zumba

Aqua Zumba brings new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. It combines the South American Zumba rhythm and dance steps with a pool party! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles. If you like to dance and have fun, come join us!

Body Blast/Blitz

Energetic, fast-paced workout that meets all your fitness needs. All levels of fitness—includes cardio intervals & strength training stations to boost metabolism, sculpt muscles & relieve stress. Time flies & you will leave feeling exhilarated.

Boot Camp

A results-based conditioning program conducted indoors & outdoors, utilizing military style format coupled with the most innovative and creative exercises in fitness. Workouts include cardiovascular, speed and endurance, partner resistance, strength training and more. If you think you need a kick start, this class is for you!

Cardio Dance & Fitness

Cardio Dance and Fitness is a high-energy cardio dance class incorporating dance moves, focuses on cardio, kickboxing, resistance training, Pilates, barre, and yoga. This unique experience offers an inspiring blend of dance, fitness, rigorous cardio and body sculpting. You’ll move, sweat, and enjoy every second of this fabulous class!

Cardio Mix

This class does it all!  Step, kickboxing, floor, and intervals!  An easy to follow heart-pumping cardio workout.

Gravity

GTS Gravity uses an individual’s body weight as resistance, utilizes a cable and pulley system and free-motion glideboard. Adjustable to nine different levels of resistance, the machine engages all major muscle groups and facilitates more than 250 strength training, stretching and Pilates exercises. Space is limited to 4 participants for 45-minute classes.

HIIT

Are you ready to take your fitness to the next level? Torch calories and improve cardiovascular capacity with High-Intensity Interval Training class. This class includes a warm-up, 30 minutes of focused interval work, core work and stretching.

Insanity!

Nope, you don’t have to be insane to take this class – just up for an intense and complete body workout. This is an athletic­-based class that focuses on all the aspects of fitness combined into one hour – don’t forget your sweat towel!

Pilates

This class is designed to work your powerhouse muscles – abs, lower back, thighs, and buttocks. The discipline emphasizes correct form to help develop strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, & good posture. Designed for all levels.

PiYo

Power Hour This class is POWERFUL! You will most definitely need a sweat towel and a bottle of water. The focus is on getting an all-around top to bottom workout, including core and stretch. All levels welcome!

Power Pump

BAC’s barbell training group exercise class. You’ll love the music & motivation while you squat, curl, and press for maximum calorie burning & body reshaping. Intended for all levels & designed to guarantee results.

Plus (+)

Same format as Power Pump but injected with high energy intervals to challenge your cardiovascular system, burn more calories, and reach new goals.

REVOLUTIONS

Rev it up in BAC’s Indoor Cycling class called Revolution.  Don’t let the cold and rainy season put a damper on your training. Indoor cycling is an excellent way to keep your cardiovascular fitness up in a low impact heart pumping activity. Revolution will take members through specific drills that are designed to build strength and muscle endurance. Take your training to the next level through timed intervals where you will learn to fly on the flats, jog up-and-down mixed terrains and attack on a hill.  This class is designed to benefit someone who has not been on a bike in years to the avid cyclist. Revolution will mimic the outdoor riding experience in a high intensity, energetic, and friendly environment that will push you to be your best.<

Retrofit

Moderate-paced, low-impact class designed for people who are comfortable with basic choreography. Focus is on simple movements. This is a great starting class for all ages, beginners, and members coming back from rehab injuries.

Ripped

The One Stop Body Shock! Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance and Diet. A total body workout that’s highly effective and intense. This workout requires the body to respond to a constantly changing format and offers ultimate results in minimal time. It’s athletic based and a perfect class to get out of a plateau from repetitive workouts. A fitness formula for an intense workout that squeezes all the best elements of fitness into an hour.

Step

High energy, heart pumping classes uses step choreography to keep you moving and grooving to the beat of the music.

Step Interval

Beginning to Intermediate Step choreography alternated with calorie-burning cardio intervals, and finished with abdominal sculpting.

Step & Pump

Start your day out right with this fat burning, muscle toning, keep it moving class! Combine step/cardio with toning and conditioning, often using hand weights, bands, and weighted bars.

Strength & Stretch

This class is for any fitness level. The focus is on a combination of body weight exercises, bands, and other tools to challenge your strength and full body stretching to compliment your training program.

Strong

Using various Strength training tools and weights, this class focuses on muscle! We include exercises for all of our muscle groups – as well as our “heart muscle” by incorporating cardio exercises. This class changes from week to week – so be prepared to make some “gains”!

Strong & Stable

A moderately-paced strengthening and balance exercise class for adults. Every class features exercises that increase balance, mobility, and strength in order for you to continue enjoying an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Total Body Conditioning (TBC)

Just like the name of the class – the description is just that!  A little bit of everything including cardio, strength, core and a stretch.  This class is a great workout for all levels of fitness.

Weights for Women

Get the benefits of a personal training session in a dynamic group atmosphere! Our Weights for Women program runs throughout the year. Sessions are two days per week for 45 or 75 minutes. For more information and start dates, please contact the front desk.

Yoga

Alignment-based yoga focused on building strength and improving balance and flexibility. Cues are geared toward supporting students’ mobility and structural integrity. This class is influenced by the Vinyasa style of yoga, where students flow from pose to pose with their breath. This flow means the strength-building portion of class can be more fast-paced than a gentle yoga class. This class is appropriate for anyone who is healthy and injury free. Modifications are always offered to support students at different levels.

Yoga, Flow

Yoga Flow offers a Vinyasa style yoga, linking conscious breath and vigorous movement from one pose to the next. Set to fun upbeat music the participants will build strength, flexibility, and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind. Each class session ends with a full body relaxation Savasana posture.

Yoga, Gentle

A variation of Yoga where the pace is slow and gentle, allowing the participants to combine yoga movements with breath control. Its therapeutic modifications to yoga poses make it appropriate for all levels, ages, and types of students helping increase mobility and flexibility in a slow well-rounded approach. Each class is designed to meet the mental, physical, and inspirational needs of each participant.

Zumba

This dance-based aerobics class fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. Zumba participants achieve long term health benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life! Jeri Winterburn
Group Exercise Director

Jeri has been teaching fitness classes for over 35 years. She is also a syndicated fitness columnist, and wrote weekly columns for the Bellingham Herald for several years. Jeri has been featured in a R.I.P.P.E.D video available online.

In her spare time, she enjoys camping and hiking with her family – as well as breeding Bernese Mountain dogs, and creating unique jewelry and wreaths, and dried floral arrangements which she sells online.
Whether you are new to exercise or a seasoned athlete, Jeri is always eager to help you attain your fitness goals.

Celine Mauger
Class Instructor

Celine teaches Zumba® Fitness classes at the Cordata location every Wednesday at 5:30pm and Friday at 5:45pm. She strongly believes that exercising can and should be fun and enjoyable and always strives to make every class a party. Her goal is to make her routines easy to follow so that everyone moves the whole time and gets a great cardio workout. She also shows modifications throughout the class for lower impact steps. Celine holds her Group Exercise Instructor Certification through the Athletics and Fitness Association of America. Only three rules apply in Celine’s Zumba® classes: Keep moving, have fun, and smile!

In her personal life, she likes to spend time with her family: her husband Michael, with whom she moved from France 12 years ago, and their three children who are 9, 6 and a brand new baby.

Heather Calloway
Group Fitness Instructor

Heather has been a certified group fitness instructor at BAC since 1998. She teaches a variety of classes including Insanity, Total Body Conditioning, Power Pump and RIPPED. When not teaching, Heather is full-time paralegal and her and her husband Lance try their best to keep up with their very busy 9-year-old son, Hunter.  She also enjoys running, hiking, working in her yard and spending time with friends and family.  Come and check out one of Heather’s early morning classes at the Cordata club!

Jennifer Dyrland
Group Fitness Instructor

For the last 12 years I have enjoyed teaching Pilates at the Bellingham Athletic Club. Maintaining my Pilates certification through Power Pilates over the years has helped me fine-tune workouts and keep members challenged. Following several foot and ankle injuries, I needed a non-impact method to build and increase my core strength. I quickly became enamored with Pilates. Working with members to strengthen their abs, back, and increase flexibility has been great fun! Come check out a class! This year I will celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary–I meet my husband Erik while attending graduate school at WWU. We have two amazing kids and have recently become empty-nesters. Outside of the BAC I enjoy baking, hiking, snowshoeing, traveling, gardening, spending time with friends and volunteering.

I have been teaching at BAC close to 5 years. I am certified as a Boot Camp Instructor under the START Fitness Program. I am also certified in Tac Fit and have an Indoor Cycling (Spinning) Certification. I currently teach Boot Camp on Mondays and Wednesdays at Cordata. I also teach indoor cycling on Tuesday mornings at the Downtown club.

Outside of the gym, I work a full-time job in technology sales. I love to spend time with family – wife Melissa (who also teaches at the club) and daughters, Michaela and Zoey. In my free time, I love to race triathlons, ride bikes, snow ski, run trails, paddle board, and hanging out with friends.

Kate Stevenson
Group Fitness Instructor

Kate Stevenson has been a group fitness instructor at Bellingham Athletic Club since 2001, upon graduation with a B.S. in Fitness and Exercise Science from Western Washington University. She is a certified ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Polestar Pilates Instructor. Kate currently teaches a variety of group classes, including Power Pump, Whole Body Fitness, Strong, RIPPED, Mat Pilates and Pilates Fusion at BAC and in the Faculty/Staff Wellness Program at WWU. Kate has danced with Bellingham Repertory Dance for years and continues her passion for dance and performing with Kuntz and Company. You’ll find Kate running the trails in the wee morning hours and playing with her 2 awesome kids, Clyde and Hazel, and her sweet husband Trent, all around town!

I have been teaching group fitness classes for over 3 years. I have an AFAA group fitness certification and currently teach a kickboxing/power class at BAC. I also enjoy running and hiking with my dog. When I’m not at the gym, I work at Opportunity Council as a Case Management Supervisor for Homeless Housing. I love reading, watching movies, and drinking wine with friends.

I started my yoga career in 2012 getting certified with a 200-hour teacher certification course. I was trained in an Ashtanga based studio. I have used yoga to help center myself as well as surround myself in a warm and welcoming community. I started teaching at BAC in November 2017.

When I am not teaching yoga, I try to spend as much time outside as possible. I love to ski, hike, kayak, surf, visit the farmers market and cook!

Lynnette Reilly
Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor

I am Lynnette Reilly and have a passion for personal training, health and wellness. I am excited to inspire and motivate you to reach whatever fitness goals you are looking to achieve. I want to enable you to move more freely through mobility, stability, strength, and flexibility.

As a youth I was on many different athletic teams, but truly began my own fitness journey after the birth of my three daughters. I felt empowered as a woman and realized how much my body was physically capable of. I found great enjoyment and a feeling of success as I began to lift weights, grow my strength, and be able to both push and pull my own body weight. Watching my own body physically change and being able to perform physical tasks with more ease was such a great feeling of achievement. Fitness has provided a sense of great accomplishment and I love helping others find that same connection with strength. It has also been an amazing outlet in giving me the energy and endurance I have needed in my daily life. I have since completed multiple races and events such as the Spartan, the Tough Mudder and the Warrior Dash. I continue to strive toward becoming a more fit individual each year.

I love to make the gym everyone’s playground. As a Functional Movement Specialist, I take my clients through a series of assessments. This allows me to prescribe the exercises that will help you move more efficiently doing the things you love the most. Whether your goals involve weight loss, strengthening, endurance or pain management. I can find the solution to meet your need. No matter what age or gender, no matter what weaknesses or inhibitions you have, I can help. Let’s begin this journey together.

Melissa Lemcke
Group Fitness Instructor

Melissa Lemcke has been teaching at BAC for two years. Melissa keeps her fitness interesting and ever-changing. She’s a certified spin, boot camp and TRX instructor with a new addition to her arsenal with Beachbody’s PiYo. Currently, Melissa is teaching Pump & HIIT, Strong and Cycle. PiYo will be on the schedule for both clubs starting in mid-April.

This journey in fitness has been a wonderful and exciting experience which shows in her classes. Melissa prides herself on the variety of content and the modifications in difficulty in her classes. Her education is always ongoing to keep her current and fresh.

Outside the gym, Melissa stays active with friends and family through running, triathlons and various races. Melissa is married to fellow group fitness instructor Jeremy Lemcke. Her daughters, Michaela (12) and Zoey (5), keep her busy. Michaela is currently swimming on Bellingham Bay Swim Team and loves it! Zoey is a ball of fire and spunk and ready for kindergarten in the fall.

Susan Deschenes
Group Fitness Instructor

Susan has been certified as a Group Exercise Instructor and started teaching in 1993. She got her Personal Trainer Certification in 1995. Susan currently teaches Group Fitness Boot Camp classes at the Downtown club on Mondays and Wednesdays. She also teaches yoga, pilates, spin, bench, floor and senior fitness classes.
