BAC Juniors Represent at World Racquetball Championships

BAC Junior Racquetball Players Hollie Scott and Jake Birnel represented not only BAC and the state of Washington, but also the United States at the Junior World Racquetball Championships in the Dominican Republic in November.

hollie-worlds-2015

Hollie qualified with partner Lexie York of Oregon to play in the Girls 18 and under Gold Division, earning a 2nd place seed. They lost in the quarter finals to a tough team from Mexico, with a heartbreaking 11-10 tiebreaker match.

Jake-Worlds-2015

Jake teamed up with Sam Bredenbach at the USA Junior Nationals to take 1st place and move on to the World Championships, playing qualifying rounds and earning a 2nd place seed in the final round of 8 teams. He and his partner fought through to the finals, losing a tough match to Mexico to claim 2nd place at Worlds.

Both Hollie and Jake had a great experience and both will attempt to qualify once again at Junior Nationals next year so that they can compete at Junior Worlds in 2016. Both hope to earn a berth in both singles and doubles and continue to practice and improve their games.

Congrats to both of you!

Junior Results at Fall Classic

Fall-Classic-2015Recent tournament activity saw these three juniors competing in the 12 and under division. It was great to see them on the court and we hope to have a large junior participation at our January Winter Shootout!

2015 Wilson Hope

The Wilson Hope Racquetball tournament is quickly approaching. Mark your calendars for October 3 and 4, 2015 to come out and support a cause. There’s no better way to support the Cancer Center than by doing something you love! There will be men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles! This is the perfect way to get your swing back and prepare for the upcoming season.

2015 NORTHWEST OPEN RECAP

The 44th Annual Northwest Open is now under our belts and we can count it as another success! We had 110 participants this year. Although the number was lower than normal we still hold the title for biggest tournament in Washington State. Out of the 110 participants, 61 of them were nonmembers and came from out of town, even out of state to participate. I am beyond thankful for all of our participants, sponsors and club employees that helped throughout the weekend. Without all of them, this event would not be possible. One of our sponsors, Don & Carolyn Cummins of Elite Electrical and long time members of BAC have sponsored this tournament for many years; this being their last. Thank you for being such a loyal part of the BAC racquetball community. Other sponsors include, Kelli Holz of Holz Racing Product, Tim Goering of Waddell & Reed and Rod & Tina Jackson of Industrial Supply Inc. We appreciate each and every one of you!

Taylor Knoth of Milwaukie, OR took first place in Men’s Open singles. To defend his title he took on racquetball hall of famer, Jimmy Lowe of Hawaii and beat him in two games. BAC favorite, Jake Birnel and Jimmy Lowe took first in Men’s Open Doubles, defeating Bellingham Locals, Taylor Disch and Tracy Drury. In the final ‘money event’ of the tournament, Mixed Open Doubles, Club Pro Wanda Collins and her partner, Vince Kitely defeated Hollie Scott and Rocco Vega.

We had a great weekend, full of energy, fun, & great racquetball!
