Northwest Open Racquetball

THE 43RD ANNUAL NORTHWEST OPEN is coming to Bellingham Athletic Club!

March 13-16 will have players from Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii and British Columbia competing in divisions for ALL levels of play.  Men’s Open Singles and Doubles, as well as Women’s Open Singles and Mixed Open Doubles will have large cash prizes where you’ll see the best of the Northwest competing.

We pride ourselves on full women’s draws and great hospitality.

Also note that this year you can play in a total of three events, if the 3rd is a Mixed Doubles.  You may also enter two doubles, as long as the 2nd event is Mixed Doubles.

We’d love to see the Men’s senior events (60 and 65 years young) fill up too!

Elite Electrical Fall Classic Results

Thank you to all of those who participated in the 2013 Elite Electric Fall Classic. We had an awesome turn out this year, 106 participants! It was a full weekend of fun, racquetball, and good food. We had prizes ranging from first place turkeys to consolation cranberry sauce. If you had a whole family playing, you could have your entire Thanksgiving Dinner taken care of. Jake Birnel took first in men’s open, and mens open doubles with his dad, Don. Eileen Dowell was the winner of Womens A’s. We
did not have any junior divisions, as all of our kiddos have moved into men’s & women’s divisions. Elite Electrical Fall Classic

Join us for our annual Thanksgiving tournament. This year we will be a WRA sanctioned tournament event. In addition to the plates and plaques given for a sanctioned event, we will continue the tradition of awarding turkeys, pumpkin pies and other items. Come join the fun! November 22-24, 2013.

Wilson Hope Tournament Results

A big congratulations to fellow BAC employee’s Jessie Scott and Triston Guthrie in placing 1st for doubles at the Wilson Hope Tournament. Way to go dream team!

BAC recently hosted the Wilson Hope Racquetball Tournament. Thank you to all who participated. We had 42 participants, 13 from out of town (Seattle, Spokane and Canada.) We raised $1200 for our donation to the St Joseph’s Cancer Center, where the money will be used to help those diagnosed with cancer by providing reading materials and other helpful items to get them through their treatments. We were also able to purchase a series of massages for a member of our club currently undergoing cancer treatments for lung and stomach cancer. Your participation has made a positive difference for others.

BAC Juniors Players Headed to Worlds!

jake-hollieWe could not be prouder of two of our junior members!  Hollie Scott and Jake Birnel are representing the United States on the National Junior Team in Bolivia in October, 2013.  They made the junior team in their participation at Junior Nationals in June in Iowa State. Hollie placed 2nd in Girls 16 singles, while Jake claimed first place in Boys 16 singles.  Both of them are great athletes and will represent us well.  They are the only junior players in Washington State to make the Junior Team.

Way to go, guys!  Play your best and enjoy the experience.

Wilson Hope Racquetball Tournament

Why: To support a good cause, and have fun doing it!

The 2013-2014 Racquetball Season is finally here! Kick off the season by supporting the St. Josephs Cancer Center and participating in the Wilson Hope Tournament. All proceeds will go to the cancer center. This two day tournament is a great way to get back in the swing of things; there will be door prizes, lunch, beverages, and a lot of play!

2013 40TH Wilson Junior Olympics

Jake Birnel, Hollie Scott and Nick Birnel represented Bellingham Athletic Club and Washington Racquetball Association this past week at the 2013 40TH Wilson Junior Olympics. Junior players from all across the U.S. competed for coveted Gold medals in over 30 divisions for boy’s and girl’s in singles and doubles at the Oakmoor Racquet and Fitness Club, in Des Moines, IA.

Jake Birnel and Hollie Scott took home a first place medal in Mixed Doubles (16 and under)! Jake also took first in 16 and under singles! Hollie took 2nd in 16 and under singles and 3rd in 14 and under singles! While Nick Birnel took 2nd in Boys Doubles (12 and under), 4th in 12 and under single and took 1st in Mixed Doubles (12 and under)! For more results, press here.
