BAC Junior Racquetball Players Hit Nationals in Arizona

Seven junior players attended Junior Nationals at the ASU Campus in Tempe, Arizona. They spent five days playing racquetball with the best players in the Nation. In 110 degree heat, they played at the pool, hit the courts, and visited Gameworks at the local Mall as part of their Saturday night banquet festivities.

Congratulations to:

Tim Ho – Tim competed in a draw of 47 top players, losing in his 2nd round to Ismael Aldana, the eventual 2nd place finisher. Tim scored more points on Ismael than others after him. In Mixed 18 Doubles, Tim and his sister Brianna, lost in the second round to the eventual first place finishers, Mazur and Sledzik from New England. Tough draws for Tim!

Brianna Ho - Brianna placed 4th in Girls 16 Singles and she and her partner from Burlington, Jessica Munoz, played well, taking 2nd place in Girls 16 Doubles.

Triston Guthrie - Triston and Brandon Blair played in a tough 12 Doubles division, losing in their 2nd round. Triston played well in the Red 12 Division, losing a close one in the quarter finals of the Red Division.

Brandon Blair - Besides his doubles with Triston, Brandon played in the 12 Red Division, making his way to place 4th. There were 31 players in the 12 and under division!

Jake Birnel - Jake ran into some tough matches this year, grinding it out to take 4th in the Boys 10 and under. At 9 years old, Jake played a few 11 year olds. Look out in the coming years! Jake and his partner, Ryan Francis, place 3rd in the Gold Boys 10 Doubles.

Jordon Birnel - This was Jordon’s first time at Nationals. After an error in placement, Jordon was allowed to play in 8 and under multi bounce as well as 8 and under. Jordon placed 2nd in Boys Red 8 and under.

Nick Birnel – Nick was ready to play in the multi bounce division, until the mix up with his brother’s entry came to light. In a show of exceptional sportsmanship, Nick gave up his spot in the draw to his brother, Jordon. Nick was awarded a 2nd place medal just like his brother’s at the end of the tournament. Way to go, Nick!
